United Tour April 2010 Has Begun

This trip began a little harder than most…a 6 hour delay in Sydney airport and a consequential missed connection in San Francisco meant that we didn’t arrive in Boston till the morning of our first event and left us without much sleep over the 32+ hours of travel time.. Never-the-less, the Wang Theater was sold out and a good time was had by all. From there it was the Tower Theater in Philly, Izod Center in New Jersey followed by the Sears Center in Chicago, where the event posted a most tickets ever sold! Good times.

For this run of event we have contracted Mid America Sound, who are providing an enjoyable L-Acoustics V-Dosc rig.

I am running a PM5D-RH at FOH, clocking to a big ben at 96k and sending L&R through an Avalon 747 before running into Dolby Lake Processing.

Sydney, Australia – March 2010 //United Studio Album//

March 2010 has seen the commencement of  Hillsong United‘s second studio album.. We are recording in Studio 1 at  Studios 301 in Sydney, making very good use of the 72 channel Neve 88R and the great sounding rooms the facilities include. After a week of solid work we are well under way…more to come!

Here are a few pics of progress so far!

Chris Navarrete - July 15, 2012 - 9:01 pm

Hey James, I was wondering what kind of microphones do you mainly use to record United? I know you guys maybe used many but what what did you mainly use?

FELIPE.DS - November 21, 2011 - 5:03 am

Hello Jimmy many blessings
I am from Chile and I was in the concert the day Saturday, I am the youth that I call you to speak with you little before beginning the concert and we didn’t understand each other very well for our language (English-Spanish)..I was located ahead of you… do you remind me?
Firstly to tell you that I love your work, it sounded incredible!!! , God follows you blessing and giving forces every day but.
Jimmy that microphones the singers occupied in this tour?
Is the other thing that wanted to wonder if your you can help me, with my band we are working in our first album and do we want to listen your opinion regarding one of our songs, can we send you the song so that you listen to it?
Thank you for your help and your time, this my e-mail Felipe.dsband@gmail.com

Thanks for the response.. It seems that yall took a new approach on the drum sounds on the aftermath album…im sure yall had fun with it..you hear more of a raw sound and yall really let those drums speak..

Love your work…

-God Bless!

Hey Chris,
The Aftermath drum sound was comprised of about 5 different drum kits (mostly ludwig and gretsch components from a variety of eras) and was recorded in about 5 different locations. The reason I mention locations is a lot of the sound you hear is reliant on those rooms and those placements.

Hey jimmy,

Is kobes using Ludwig centennials in that picture?.. Were these drums (besides snare) what he used for the entire album?

-thanks

Hey Christian,
There was a fair bit of changing going on during the process but mostly A and K customs.

Christian Leonard - October 15, 2011 - 9:51 pm

Hey, What cymbals did Kobes use on the “aftermath” record?
